Acupuncture & Dry Needling
Acupuncture with Kirsten Wunderer:
Acupuncture is a therapeutic modality involving the insertion of fine needles.
At Murwillumbah Physiotherapy we draw upon the traditions of Chinese and Japanese acupuncture using current knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathology, and the principles of evidence based medicine.
The traditional view is that when energy is not balanced in the system of meridians in the body, symptoms may appear.
Treatment is directed to re-establishing balance to enable the body to heal itself.
Dry Needling with Alex Margan:
Dry needling is an effective treatment for pain that is caused my muscular tightness. Dry needling uses the stimulation of trigger points with fine filament needles.
A trigger point is a local band of tight, irritable and dysfunctional muscle tissue. This often emerges because of injury, overuse or poor movement patterns. When dry needling is applied to an affected muscle or trigger point, it can decrease muscle tightness, increase blood flow and reduce pain.
Dry needling is used to effectively treat acute and chronic orthopaedic and musculoskeletal conditions. Dry needling usually is paired with exercise and other therapy techniques to prevent trigger points from reoccurring.
