Hand Therapy
Murwillumbah Physiotherapy offer hand therapy services. The clinic now has a room set up for the fabrication of custom-made thermoplastic splints and our physiotherapists are experienced with the management of hand conditions. Alex Margan has experience in management of both traumatic and non-traumatic hand injuries.
Some conditions that we may be able to assist with include:
- Traumatic injuries to the hand, wrist, forearm and elbow (conservative and post-operative):
- Fractures (Phalangeal, metacarpal, carpal, ulna & radial)
- Tendon lacerations or avulsions (Mallet injuries)
- Ligament sprains and avulsions (Volar plate injuries, thumb UCL, TFCC)
- Nerve lacerations
- Infections of the hand and upper limb (Animal bites, cellulitis)
- Digital amputations and nailbed injuries
- Chronic inflammatory conditions of the upper limb:
- Overuse injuries (De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis)
- Osteo and rheumatoid arthritis (splinting and joint protection education, advice re. aids)
- Dupuytren’s Disease (pre-op education and post-op management)
- Nerve injuries:
- Lacerations
- Compression/Impingements
- Palsies (Radial, Ulnar and PIN nerve)
- Other:
- Splinting for function (MND, Spinal, arthritis)
- Splinting for contracture management
